The Deputy Resident District Commissioner Kagadi Benjamin Tumusime has cautioned residents of Kyabasara in Paachwa Sub County to ensure sanitation and Hygiene at household level in order to control the spread of Hgyeine related diseases.
Benjamin made the revelation while addressing thousands as Kagadi celebration of the sanitation week Under the theme “Sanitation and hygiene for all, a key to disease control” a function held at Kyabasara HC111 in Paachwa Sub county.
Kagadi District selected paachwa Sub County to host this year’s sanitation week activities cause of low latrine coverage and motivate community members towards open defecation attainment through behavior change in a bid to prevent sanitation hygiene related diseases like cholera, malaria, and dysentery among others
According to the baseline survey on sanitation Paachwa Handwash stood at 17.34% and sanitation and hygiene 36.9%
The secretary for education and health Hon Baswire Mary on behalf of the District Chairperson urged residents to always protect the environment if water sources are to be maintained
On behalf of the CAO Kagadi Bisangabasaija Edward noted that Paachwa Sub County is one of the local governments with low latrine coverage which affects access to clean water.
He urged local leaders to sensitize households on the importance of latrines.
The national Sanitation day was held on March, 22nd, this year in Mbale District.
