The Ministry of Agriculture, Animal industry and fisheries together with Kagadi District Production department has launched the distribution of 2,000 bags of Organic Mineral Fertilizer to 75 tea farmers in the District.
The launch was held at Muzizi tea estate in Kamusegu Bwikara sub county which is the leading tea producer and exporter in Uganda.
Organic Mineral Fertilizer contains essential soil nutrients that boost crop growth, improve quality and increase overall harvest yields.
Edward Birungi the Assistant Resident District Commissioner Kagadi launched the distribution exercise.
Others present was the NRM Chairperson Karukana Erukana Mpoza, operation wealth creation Coordinator Kagadi Col Sam Musinguzi, District Chairperson Elly Grad Tumusiime, Chief Administrative Officer James Luyimbazi, Secretary for production and Natural Resources Ataho Balisanyuka, District Production officer Dr Amanya James among others.
In his remarks the Chief Administrative Officer Kagadi James Luyimbazi said the fertilizer distribution is timely since it’s a rainy season and tasked farmers to utilise the opportunity for better and higher yields.
The District Chairperson Tumusiime Elly Gard noted transparency in farmer selection since it was done by the production department and verified by the District Internal Security Officer’s office.
Edward Birungi the Assistant Resident District Commissioner Kagadi hailed technical staff and urged them to guide farmers through out the application of the fertilizers.
