Kagadi District and its development partners UNICEF, World Vision and Office of the prime Minister have finalized the development of the District disaster Contingency plan with a two day simulation exercise held at the District Headquarters.
A District disaster contingency plan helps the organization to respond in emergencies and un foreseen events like Epidermis, droughts, famine among others.
The journey started in September 2022 with equipping skills and knowledge to district technical and political staff on disaster preparedness and response, in a 4 day training workshop that targeted the District management committee members, Sub-county Disaster management committee from 14 lower local governments which was held at Kalya courts in Fort portal city.
Suzan Birungi Nyakojo, the Emergency Officer for UNICEF Mbarara Zonal office said formulation of the DDMC was aimed at fulfilling the OPM policy for every District to have a District Disaster Contingency plan.
She further cautioned residents to desist from self-medication and always consult medical workers in case of any Health complications
Akollo Mary Helen the disaster Management Manager for world Vision urges the Kagadi disaster management plan team to work hand in hand with other partners to ensure that the district contingency plan is used for disaster preparedness within the district.
Mugisa Peter Sebugwaho the Vice Chairperson Kagadi is optimistic that the District Disaster contingency plan which help the district in fighting disaster outbreaks like Ebola, Cholera, floods among others.
