The Government of Uganda through Ministry of Water and Environment in collaboration with Kagadi District Local government has kicked off the demarcation of wetlands an exercise geared towards curbing the further encroachment and sustainable protection of wetlands in the Kagadi district
The revelation was made by Daniel Businge the senior Wetlands Officer in the Ministry of Water and Environment during the HONDWA physical wetland demarcation preparatory meeting held at Kagadi Community Hall in Kagadi Town council Kagadi district.
The meeting was attended by the different stakeholder including DEC Members, Production and Natural resource Committee members, Ministry of Water and Environment, technical staff Media among other.
According to Businge, the exercise started with a district’s stakeholders preparatory meeting, and later a community engagement meeting will be held in Kenga Parish Kagadi Sub county where the demarcation exercise will be held
Businge said after the sensitization exercise, they will immediately embark on the physical wetland demarcation of HONDWA Wetland which covers parts of Kagadi and Muhorro sub counties respectively.
Businge implored members of the general public not to be hoodwinked of ‘no gazetted wetlands’, asserting that the law on the protection of wetlands is very clear.
Deputy RDC Kagadi district Benjamin Tumusiime, the Kagadi district leadership promised maximum support and cooperation towards the ministry of water and environment in implementing the wetland demarcation exercise.
