Government Hands over 800 Mailo Land Titles to residents in Kagadi Sub County

The Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development on Friday 19th May 2023 handed over 800 Mailo land titles to registered land owners in Kagadi Sub county Buyaga East Kagadi district.

The handover was officiated Hon. Judith Nabakooba a function held at St Adolf Catholic church in Kenga central Kenga parish Kagadi Sub county.

A total of 600 land titles are still are on halt a result of owners delaying to pay Stamp duty fee while over 214 land titles will be issued out by the Uganda land commission soon are ready for distribution

The land over which 1614 mailo land titles issued formerly comprised on Block 55 Plot 8 measuring 1791 acres belonging to Laurent musoke and later joseph Kyambade who was compensated by the government and transferred the land title to Uganda land commission in 2004.

Government of Uganda has acquired 160,128 acres of land in greater Kibaale.  

The government of Uganda through the Uganda land commission has for the last years resolved historical land injustice and returned land to the rightful land owners to address the problem of illegal land evictions.

Hon. Nabakooba urged beneficiaries to ensure increase of land productivity through engaging in commercial agriculture in order to improve household incomes as government implements the parish development model program.

She re-enchoed President Musevenis advice on land fragmentation, saying it is increasing rural poverty, food insecurity and conflicts.

The Member of Parliament Buyaga West Hon Tinkasimire Barnabus cautioned residents on the effects of mortgaging land titles for loans.

The excited residents appreciated the government of Uganda for the initiative since they have attained land ownership

The function was attended by the District Executive committee members, officials from the Uganda land commission, The technical staff led by the Deputy CAO Robert Mugabe, local leaders, religious leaders, Media among others
