The Minister for Lands, Housing and Urban Development Judith Nabakooba has warned absentee land lords against the eviction of bonafide land occupants in Kagadi District.

Nabakooba made the call while presiding over the women’s day celebrations in Kagadi District at Mabaale playground in Mabaale Town council Kagadi district under the theme “Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality”.

Minister Nabakooba says the government has established the systematic land demarcation and has compensated all absentee land lords and to her dismay illegal evictions have continued for selfish interests.

Janepher Kyomuhendo Mbabazi, the Kagadi Woman Member of Parliament said they have been making several attempts to end the eviction threats in Kagadi but action is moving slowly and tasked the minister of lands to expedite the process so that the people can work for prosperity without fear of being evicted.

Benjamin Tumusiime, the Kagadi district Deputy RDC reported to the minister that his office has 4 court orders asking them to evict people.

He asked the minister to swiftly intervene and save the people who are at the verge of losing their land.

However, Minister Nabakooba asked the office of the RDC not to implement the land eviction court orders saying that the president has put a ban on evictions and that no one should be evicted from their land.

Florence Kugonza, the chairperson Women Council Kagadi district said they have been facing several challenges in mobilizing the women due to lack of transport means and asked the government to think on facilitating the women councils so that they can effectively serve the nation.

Dr. Mwalimu Musheshe, the Vice Chancellor African Rural University said women have reasons to celebrate the day because they have come from far and this has been spearheaded by the NRM government.

Dr. Musheshe said the past was negative on women unlike the present.

A total of 1600 land titles will be handed over to the locals in Kagadi District in the May 2023.

The Deputy Resident District commissioner Kagadi Benjamin Tumusiime has appealed to teachers to always integrate life skill and value lesson in their schemes of work.

Benjamin made the revelation while addressing stakeholders during a one-day meeting organized by KCSON aimed at disseminating findings in the assessment report conducted of life skill and values in the district.

In the month of July-August 2022 Kitara Civil society organizations Network in partnership with Uwezo Uganda and Luigi Guissani insitute of Higher Education conducted an assessment on life skills and values under the initiative of the regional education and learning initiative with focus on three skills including problem solving, collaboration and self-awareness and one value respect among adolescents.

The research covered 484 respondents between the age of 13-17 years in school and out of school adolescents

According to the finding on problem solving as a component 29% adolescent struggled in recognizing a problem and unable to identify possible solution, 60% were able to recognize existence of a problem from one perspective, 9.3% able to recognize existence of a problem from one perspective and able to identify a main approach while 1.4% were able to recognize existence of a problem with multiple perspectives.

On self-management 13.9% were unable to regulate negative emotions and responses, 56.7% were able to control self in a situation through repression of emotion or avoidance while 29,4 % sufficiently self-aware and confident to respond adaptively even when directly confronted.

On collaboration 8.4% do not engage either by being attentive to discussion, speaking or through action, 60.1% are attentive to discussion and may query the views of others, 28% collaborates through speaking and being attentive in discussions while 3.6 % collaborates through taking positions and contributing ideas and prompting others.

The research under respect pointed out that 10% were unable to respond in a relevant way, 39.2% were aware of infringement of rights or bad behaviors by one person towards another, 42.2% were able to interpret bad behaviors as lack of respect for others or self while 8.3% were aware of links between respects for property and person and will act in respectful way towards others and in defense of others.

Tanazio Byamugisha the District coordinator Assessment of life skills and values says that the ministry of education and sports is adapting a new lower secondary curriculum aimed at equipping learners with life skills and values to face challenges with positivity and creativity

He further said the research will help different stakeholders in policy formation and decision making

The Vice Chairperson LCV Peter Sebugwaho appealed to stakeholders to institute morals among adolescents if the society is to have God fearing children

Kagadi District primary Kids athletics were concluded on Wednesday 19^th/04/2023 with Kitegwa zone emerging as the champions of both under 12 and 14 Primary Kids athletics 2023 at Kitegwa Model Primary school in Rutete Town council Kagadi District.

The school were clustered into 4 zones including Kagadi. Mabaale, Kitegwa and Maberenga,

While declaring the winners the Secretary organizing committee Lucky Edward said Kitegwa zone was declared champions having scored the lowest aggregates in both under 12 and 14 categories.

Kitegwa zone scored 102 and 112 aggregates in U-12 and U-14 respectively, Kagadi 112 and 118, Mabaale 169 and 138 Mabarenga 173 and 170

The Sports Officer Kagadi District John Mugume said it’s a policy from the ministry of education and sports for every school to participate in athletics and vowed to follow up on schools that didn’t participate in this year’s athletics.

While addressing the gathering the chief guest and the inspector of schools Aganyira Alice Claire urged schools to embrace co-curricular activities since they help in increasing enrollment in schools and promote talents among children.

Sanyu Joseph the zonal chairperson Kitegwa attributed the success to displine and determination among children.

A total of 16 athletes have been selected from various zones to represent the district at National primary kids Athletics and special needs learners (SNE) champions ship which will be held at Luwero Boys Primary school in Luwero District from 7^th-16^th May 2023

African Rural University (ARU) has launched ARU Alumnae Association with applause to Epicenter managers for acting as community developers.

The ARU Alumnae Association was launched under the theme: Visionary Women leadership championing rural transformation within an African development context.

The function was held in the center for reflection hall at ARU main campus in Kagadi Town Council Kagadi District.

This was presided over by Patricia Seybold Patty the board member Assam Forest Protection Force (AFPF) who also doubles as the ARU Council board member from USA.

Addressing the members of ARU Alumnae Association, Patricia Seybold, urged them to support each other if they are to integrate their association to be more productive.  

She supported ARU Alumnae Association with shs1.5Millions cash.

During the same function, Dr Mwalimu Musheshe the Vice Chancellor ARU acknowledged the voluntary work done by the ARU Alumnae Association members in their respective communities of work.

He however, encouraged them to prioritize data records while executing their work if they are to yield better results.

On behalf of ARU Alumnae members, Alinda Joy the chairperson of ARU Alumnae Association says the aim of their association is to keep them connected to each other, supporting each another among others.

Ms Alinda Joy the chairperson of ARU Alumnae Association her deputy is Ms Komugisa Alice, Ms Namutosi Doloka Secretory, Ms Kabahetere Sandra the Treasurer and three members that include Ms Atugonza Phiona, Ms Namutebi Annet and Ms Muhimbise Sarah.  

The function was also witnessed by Alida Bakema one of the founders of Mustard seed trust organization, a born of Netherlands and Mr Lwanga Anthony the ARU Registrar and among other staff from ARU.           

The US Agency for International Development (USAID) has distributed a total of 136 radios to government aided schools in Kagadi District under a program dubbed “USAID integrated Child and Youth Development activity”

The radios were handed over to headteachers of various government aided schools at Kagadi Model primary school Kagadi Town council in Kagadi District.

USAID/Uganda’s Integrated Child and Youth Development (ICYD) activity is partnering with the Government of Uganda (GoU) to strengthen government systems and improve the government’s ability to deliver basic education and services to children and youth, including orphans and vulnerable children (OVC), in target districts across Uganda.

Flavia Atugonza community Engagement officer USAID said the program aims at boosting early grade reading among pupils in schools.

Benjamin Tumusiime the Deputy Resident District Commissioner Kagadi strongly appealed to Head Teachers of Universal Primary schools to stop the practice of charging fee from learners, saying the act has led to early pregnancies as a result of school drop outs.

The District Education officer in a message delivered by the District Inspector of Schools Omukwenda Alinda Julius, hailed the Ministry of education and sports and  USAID for various interventions towards promoting education in the District.

Meanwhile the headteacher Kabworo Primary Alice Kabasana is optimistic that the program will enhance child reasoning and listening skills among pupils.  

Kagadi District council has today unanimously passed draft budget estimates worth Forty one billion five hundred sixty four million Eight hundred fifty three thousands shillings (41,564,853,000), annual work plan and other mandatory documents for FY 2023/2024.

The other mandatory documents include Revenue enhancement plan, Recruitment plan, capacity building plan, procurement plan and operation and maintenance plan

The motion was laid before council by the secretary for Finance, planning, administration and investment Hon Betonda Rameul Amooti during a council meeting held today at the community Hall in Kagadi town council Kagadi District

The motion was seconded by the Male councilor Mpeefu sub county Hon Mbusa Andrew and Male councilor Mairirwe Sub county mucunguzi Justus who requested council to approve the draft budget and other mandatory documents.

Magezi Muwonge the District speaker urged Hon councilors to scrutinize, review and make consultations on the Budget and work plan with different stakeholders for approval in the next council session

While addressing council, the Chief Administrative Officer Epodoi Pauline Opoi is optimistic that issues effecting the district including low wage for recruitment, local revenue collection among others can be solved if stakeholders join hands.

The women Member of Parliament for Kagadi Jennipher Kyomuhendo Mbabazi has confirmed that the belated women’s day celebration have been scheduled for 28^th April this year.

The event will be held in Mabaale playground in Mabaale town council Kagadi District.  

Jennipher made the revelation while addressing various stakeholders during the first preparatory meeting held at Mabaale community Hall Mabaale town council.

She revealed that the minister of lands Judith Nabakooba is expected to be the Chief Guest and pledged support of 300kgs of meat, 10 tents plus chairs, public address systems and decoration.

She has called upon different stakeholder in the district to support the function.

However women in Kagadi have welcomed the day with joy asserting that this is a sign of women emancipation.  

The national celebrations were held on Wednesday, March 8 2023 at Kaaro Secondary School, Kiruhura District under the theme for International Women’s Day 2023 is, “Digital Innovation and technology for gender equality.”

Since then, March 8 was designated to celebrate annually and globally the social, economic and political achievements of women.

International Women’s Day 2023 will explore the impact of the digital gender gap on widening economic and social inequalities; spotlight the importance of protecting the rights of women and girls in digital spaces and address online and ICT-facilitated gender-based violence.

The Deputy Resident District Commissioner Kagadi Benjamin Tumusime has cautioned residents of Kyabasara in Paachwa Sub County to ensure sanitation and Hygiene at household level in order to control the spread of Hgyeine related diseases.

Benjamin made the revelation while addressing thousands as Kagadi celebration of the sanitation week Under the theme “Sanitation and hygiene for all, a key to disease control” a function held at Kyabasara HC111 in Paachwa Sub county. 

Kagadi District selected paachwa Sub County to host this year’s sanitation week activities cause of low latrine coverage and motivate community members towards open defecation attainment through behavior change in a bid to prevent sanitation hygiene related diseases like cholera, malaria, and dysentery among others

According to the baseline survey on sanitation Paachwa Handwash stood at 17.34% and sanitation and hygiene 36.9%

The secretary for education and health Hon Baswire Mary on behalf of the District Chairperson urged residents to always protect the environment if water sources are to be maintained  

On behalf of the CAO Kagadi Bisangabasaija Edward noted that Paachwa Sub County is one of the local governments with low latrine coverage which affects access to clean water.

He urged local leaders to sensitize households on the importance of latrines.

The national Sanitation day was held on March, 22^nd, this year in Mbale District.

The Chairperson Roads committee who doubles as Kagadi district woman Member of Parliament Hon Janepher Kyomuhendo Mbabazi and other committee members have monitored roads that were constructed in the 2022/2023 Financial Year in the two constituencies of Buyaga East and Buyaga West that make up the Kagadi district

The monitoring exercise was a follow up on government funds released under two categories of Uganda Road Fund and Transitional Fund equivalent to sh. 718 million.

Other committee members included the MP Buyaga East Eric Musana Acaali, he Chief Administrative officer, Epodoi Pauline, District chairperson Yosia Ndibwami, district vice chairperson and also secretary works, Peter Mugisa Sebugwaho, Mayors of Town councils, District Engineer Robert Bukenya who is also the committee secretary.

They inspected the 19KM Kyadyoko,-Kabamba-Kasimbi road sh90 million, 11.4KM Mabaale-Nyabutanzi-Kyamasega road valued at sh75 million, a 22KM Kiryani-Ruteete-Kisuura 100m road and Buraza- Kayanja- Nyankoma road

Jennipher however expressed concern over unspent funds meant for road construction under works department as we move towards the closure of the financial year.

She further noted good works along Kyadyoko,-Kabamba-Kasimbi, Mabaale-Nyabutanzi-Kyamasega and noted faults on Kiryani-Ruteete-Kisuura road.

The Chief Administrative officer Epodoi Pauline noted a fair funding for the sector and promised to use the available funds to improve the road network in the District.

Hon Eric Musana Acaali asked the ministry of works to add the district more road equipment unit to back up in rehabilitation of roads in the 35 lower local governments in Kagadi district.

Benjamin Tumusiime, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner says despite the few anomalies, there is some good work done and that there is value for money though there are delays in completion of the works.
